I am very new to SGML.I have a manual in SGML format which I would
like to read and print, I did not find any reader/editor under Linux.
I am using Redhat LINUX platform. Found command line called "osx" to
convert it to xml. When netscape read the converted xml file it read
as single string without carriage return, may be file lost it during
conversion.

Could anyone tell me what would be the best method to read SGML file,
and what tools are available to convert it different format. Observed
several posting here but all are old and obsolete.
Thank you

you need to find out which DTD and a few other bits. Look for a DOCTYPE
declaration such as

<!DOCTYPE book PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook V4.1//EN"[
]>

at the top of the files. A little information about the files (even a
directory listing) would be useful.

<http://www.doczilla.com/>
<http://www.doczilla.com/faq.html>
<http://www.doczilla.com/Documentation/dzguide.html>

But you will also need the DTD and the Entity definition files that
corresponds to your SGML document instance.

DocZilla, as Jan Roland already mentioned, or epcEdit (www.epcedit.com)
are a good start.

Use Mozilla instead.

See the XML FAQ (www.ucc.ie/xml) for details of conversion to XML.
There are hundreds of applications for handling XML.
